Background Information: Wiki link

Personality: When first meeting Dorian Storm, he is quite charismatic. Having grown up in a wealthy and prominent family, he is well-spoken and his appearance would almost be described as pristine. And as a bard who is used to putting on performances and engaging a crowd, he has been known to use his charm to talk his way out of situations or gather information. His people, the Air Genasi, are connected to the wind, but the lightness in his step is often mistaken for confidence, though it’s less like an image he’s trying to portray and more like a natural part of who he is. On the surface, Dorian does come across as a pretty competent individual.

But while this is true to a degree, there are many times when Dorian can actually be quite anxious. Despite his upbringing and profession, he does get nervous when he is the main focus, and can even have moments of stage fright when performing. And contrary to what he might like people to believe, he doesn’t always know the right thing to say, and can also get easily flustered if things are going wrong. Because as much he can seem outwardly confident, the truth is he can actually be quite insecure about himself and his abilities.

Born the second son of the Wyvernwind family, Dorian (or Brontë, as his family knew him) often felt overshadowed by his older brother, Cyrus, as they grew up. Cyrus, as described by Dorian, was the “...ever stalwart first son, slave to his duty”, and perfectly suited as heir to the power and position of their family’s name. Dorian, on the other hand, struggled with being the Secondsun, and left him second-guessing his abilities and his worth in this family. His choice to depart from the Silken Squall, leaving “Brontë” behind, had partially been born from feeling ineffectual in his family, and that things would be handeld by his older brother fine without him.

Even after spending time away from home, and meeting friends and discovering things about himself, that insecurity hasn’t entirely gone away. Dorian often still feels the need to prove himself, to show his worth, but can easily get down on himself when things go wrong. He can also be secretive at times, even to his friends, particularly about his past or in times of vulnerability, and sometimes will even lie to them in order to protect himself.

And, as is common among air genasi, Dorian can at times be a bit temperamental, his mood as quick to change as the weather. He can act petty and indignant, even a bit selfish sometimes, and can be quick to anger when under immense pressure. However, equally as common of his people, these dark storms rarely last for long, and for him they don’t necessarily come from a place of malice. Dorian is simply still understanding more about the world and about himself, and coming from such a cloistered community as the Silken Squall, there is still much for him to learn.

Because at the end of the day, Dorian does have a good heart. One of the things that he enjoys most is seeing people of all kinds, with all sorts of differences, come to work and live together; not despite his secluded upbringing, but because of it. And despite sometimes keeping things from his friends, the one thing he doesn’t keep from them is how deeply he cares for them. Despite still learning and questioning his own abilities, he doesn’t hesitate to rush into danger to protect his friends, and is always prepared to fight alongside or heal them. Those that know him can see the great potential he has, and find him likable, charming, and admirable. And perhaps, with a bit of time and more trust in others and himself, Dorian will someday be able to believe that as well.

Abilities & Inventory:

Abilities
Dorian has a number of traits and magical abilities as both an Air Genasi and a Bard, with known abilities listed here. While the spells can generally be cast instantly, they can only be cast at certain strengths or a number of times in a day. Even more, some spells can be cast only once a day

Inventory
  • Winged Boots - a pair of boots that allows Dorian to fly for up to four hours. He can either use up the four hours all at once, or intermittently with a minimum of one minute, but requires 24 hours to recharge the full four hours

  • Lute - a sunburst blue lute that Dorian oftens plays as a bard

  • Moon-Touched Scimitar - an enchanted sword that glows with a limited range of moonlight when unsheathed. Dorian keeps this sword hidden in his lute that he unlocks with an extra tuning pin, and aside from the glow the enchantment does nothing to help the weapon’s attack

  • Handaxe - an axe that Dorian also uses to attack. The handle of the axe is also a flute that he can detach in order to play

  • Canaith Mandolin - a deep red, mahogany mandolin that allows Dorian to cast certain spells (Fly, Invisibility, Levitate, Protection from Evil and Good, Cure Wounds, Dispel Magic, and Protection from Energy (lightning only)). These spells can only be cast once a day. Using the mandolin also helps with casting a spell with a Charmed effect. Being able to use this mandolin requires attunement, and anyone who tries playing this instrument without attunement takes some psychic damage

  • Some spell components kept hidden in the winged pauldron on his chest. Known spell components are a diamond and a vial full of phosphorescent crystal on a chain

  • Immovable Rod - a magical iron rod that becomes fixed in space when activated. While active, it can ignore most of the effects of gravity

  • Bertrand Bell doll - a doll made in the likeness of a late-friend, Bertrand Bell, out of chicken bones and Bertrand's hair, gifted to him by his friend, Laudna

  • Sending Stone - a stone that can be used to send a message of up to 25 words to whoever holds its pair. While in Reverie, Dorian will not be able to activate the Sending Stone to send messages

  • Bag of Holding - a bag that can hold up to 500 pounds, not exceeding a volume of 64 cubic feet. The bag weighs 15 pounds, regardless of its contents. Currently Dorian is using the bag to hold 40,000 gold.

  • Suitability & Plans: One of the biggest lessons for Dorian is learning to trust himself with others. The support he’s received from his groups of friends has helped him take great strides with that, but I would love to try and continue those lessons while trying to make new friends, and find new people to trust. At the same time, Dorian does enjoy getting to see so many different people coming together, so I think he would really enjoy learning of other worlds and getting to work alongside people from those different places.
