ANGST.

[The difficult thing about creating an adventuring brigade is that...well, you need adventures. You need a resume. If you walk up to strangers saying you're looking for volunteers that won't work for pay, they aren't going to join some rando just because he came up with the idea. No, there needs to be goodwill sown among the people. Taryon can handle a few things with himself, Lionel, and K'rynn (who left for home once her debt had been repaid), but some variety would help.

Enter Dorian. There's a bard that can win smiles! Not that Taryon's wide-eyed idealism and amazing hair won't allure the public, but two handsome men is better than one. Plus Dorian is better at flirting with the ladies.

Plus, he's good in a fight.

Today, a worried parent has asked for help looking for her son and daughter that wandered into the Cyrengreen Forest yesterday and hadn't returned. While she knows they can handle one night alone, she fears they got trapped somewhere. A group of local men have also assisted in tracking them down and narrowing their possible location in the depths of the forest.

...It looks dangerous. Thus, heroes are necessary.]

[ When Taryon had asked for his assistance, Dorian didn’t hesitate to agree. He likes to think that his skills have greatly improved since he’d first left home, and he wanted to help out however he could. They still had to be cautious, of course - you never know what to expect with these kinds of things, and it’s better to be over prepared than under prepared - but Dorian is sure things would turn out all right.

["They must have wandered that way." One main points down a path to an ominously dark passage framed by old, arcing branches. It looks like a tunnel, though the quiet atmosphere is more creepy than calming.

Other men look at Tary and Dorian, expected them to go in without being asked. Taryon obliges.] Well? Doty, Dorian, we must make haste!

[He makes a chopping motion towards the path and marches straight into the deep darkness.]

[Orym pulled off his shirt and folded it, putting it aside before pulling out his sleeping pants. He looked over at his husband, trying to figure out how to ask what he wanted to ask.

The day before had been a very bad day for them both, but Dorian had lost a brother.]

[ Despite being glad to have returned to Orym’s side, Dorian had been avoiding eye contact with him now that the two of them were finally alone. Mostly because he knew this conversation was coming.

Even so, he pauses in the middle of brushing his hair. Even now, he isn’t quite sure what to say, all this thoughts and feelings a jumbled mess. ]

…I know. And I appreciate it, I do, I just… [ A pause, and then a sigh, as he puts his brush down to run a hand over his face. ] Honestly I think I’m still just trying to process all of it.

[ Everything had happened so fast - Opal being corrupted, his brother dying, the Crown Keepers splitting up. He isn’t sure how he’s managed to keep it all together other than maybe he might be in a bit of shock. ]

[he pushed down his pants and small clothes and pulled on the pajama bottoms.]

[He does. He's still reeling from FCG's death, and he remembers how much the grief hurt when his first husband and dad died. He still had that grief. It never went away. A scar on his heart that faded with time but was still there. Would always be there.

He padded over to Dorian and wrapped his arms around Dorian's torso. Took a deep breath and let out a content sigh.]

[This wasn't the first time an Enlarge spell had been used on him. It was, however, the first time one would last more than a minute, so while everyone was out shopping, he and his husband had snuck off to make the most of the spell while they had the chance.

The others had expressed him being 'normal' sized (though 6'6" was tall for a human, elf, and orc) felt weird. Chetney's ex, Deanna, had even said he excluded 'bro energy' while like this but had been cute at his normal size; he was very interested to see what Dorian thought of it.

He took off his shirt and looked at himself in the mirror of his and Dorian's inn room. Still the same muscle mass. He was not bulky, but he did feel a bit broader than usual.]

[He turned to smile at his husband. Now he was taller. Only by five inches, but when he was usually two feet and four inches shorter, it was a fun, though thankfully temporary, change.]

[ It was difficult to describe how seeing Orym like this made him feel, as he sat on the bed in their room watching his husband. It wasn’t bad by any means, but it was a bit strange. He certainly didn’t mind Orym being taller, but it wasn’t just like he’d been stretched in height. He was more - the only word Dorian could think of was - proportional, somehow. A bit broader to accommodate his new height.

But still as handsome as ever. ]

I think… [ He slowly rose from the bed, taking a few steps to stand in front of his husband. ] I think I’m very glad that we’re married. Because I’m sure I would have embarrassed myself around you by now if we weren’t.

I have to admit I'm curious about what happened down here. [He nodded at his pants.] Last time this spell was used on me, it only lasted a minute. And there wasn't anyone I wanted to explore this with.

[At his normal halfling size, he was a bit bigger than average for a halfling. He didn't expect it to be much different now, but Dorian would know better, being a 'medium-sized' creature.

He pushed his pants and small clothes down, and looked. It was proportional from this angle. He thought, anyway.]

All the Numbers We Want!

[It'd been a long few years- made even longer with fending off the semi-regular invasion of evil magical aliens- but all the girls have managed to graduate their last year of college, and were celebrating by heading out to a nice club, complete with a dance floor and a live DJ. As Makoto sipped on her hibiscus margarita, she eyed the dance floor... and the gorgeous people around it, especially the men.

A few years to dull the awkwardness of adolescence and her rejection by Nichougi-sempai and to spend with an amazing support structure like the girls have helped with her old insecurities, but sometimes they still lingered, and not being able to date much in between college courses and saving the world hasn't exactly improved her love life. (Not to mention more than a few close calls with handsome men only using her to further some evil plot.) The idea of just going up to a random guy and asking for a dance was still nerve-wracking, but... at least she felt plenty confident dancing on her own these days. And who knows, maybe she'd be lucky to catch someone's eye, especially in her new dress.

So after one more sip of her drink, she tells the girls she's going to hit the dance floor, and just in time for a bouncy number, just lively enough for her to warm up.

But... as she's dancing, something catches her eye on the outskirts of the room. Not just that one of the people involved is a GORGEOUS man, but... something doesn't seem right...]

[ At first, nothing seemed to be wrong. While the group had encountered a random plant creature while traveling, it had been taken care of pretty quickly. Though not before it had managed to spray Dorian with some kind of noxious cloud, thought the bard had insisted he was fine. And it seemed he was for a while, though as they continued their journey he had started looking a bit flushed, a bit feverish, and out of breath.

By the time they'd reached a town Dorian was looking more worse for wear, and had all but collapsed into bed once they'd managed to rent a few rooms. And despite trying some healing, nothing really seemed to help much. Even with the help of a healer they found in town, all that could be said was to wait it out and see if the symptoms worked their way through him.

And so that was what Dorian was currently doing, as he lay in bed with what seemed to be a bad fever. His cheeks still flushed and his breathing heavy, what sleep he was trying to get was interrupted as he tossed and turned, unable to really get comfortable. ]

[Carrying a bowl of cool water, Orym carefully opened the door, gently shut it behind him, and padded over to the bed. He set the bowl on the bedside drawers and then hopped onto the bed, reaching up to gently cup his husband's cheeks.]

Are you feeling any better?

[He didn't look like he was. Orym bit his lips, looking over him.]

[Tonight, Taryon and Dorian have once again ended on a couch: the human on his back and the genasi on top. From below, Dorian's multi-colored hair acts as a curtain that blocks everything but his face, and Taryon is eager to fall under the spell of his handsomeness. His own shirt is partially unbuttoned, and at this point, he's considering removing Dorian's tunic.

Lost in his eyes, he thinks back to a fantasy he had weeks ago while watching Dorian in battle, using his voice and music to push monsters away.]

I, uh...had this idea for a while. [He attempts to glance away, but his view of the room is obscured by Dorian's hair. There is no option but to gaze at his face.] About your magic.

[ Dorian pauses a moment to look down at the other man curiously, the words catching his interest. ]

[ The life of a bard was as exotic as it was thrilling. Dorian had heard plenty of stories about how bards are like; charismatic, engaging, and alluring. Traveling from place to place, telling stories and showing people a good time. He has always longed for the excitement of it all, which is why he had left home to pursue adventure of his own.

But the satisfying part was what worried him. As much as he admired bards in the stories he’s heard, he had been a bit sheltered in his home to have gotten much experience with that side of things. And while he had played in a few places here and there, he’d managed to escape from most encounters without too much more than people expecting kisses or feeling him up a bit.

But now he was actually booked for a gig at a nice tavern. The show had turned out pretty well, which he was glad for, and the audience seemed to be enjoying his songs. But now that his performance was done, and some stage hands were bringing out a chaise lounge on stage for him, he remembers the other obligation that he has to fulfill for the tavern’s patrons.

To entertain them by letting them come up and use his body as they please. ]

[Kion had heard plenty about the culture surrounding bards. Another thing that just made the world at large something new and exotic as he learned more in his adventures. And while he had been curious, he'd never really thrown his hat into the proverbial ring when it came to performances- he'd seen how things seemed to go, didn't mind the idea of it, but the bards he'd seen to this point hadn't really seemed to catch his eye in that way. He might flirt with a couple, or offer a sweet kiss in passing, but otherwise was content.

This bard however had him positively enamored. Unable to help how he perked as he watched the genasi perform. Enough so that when the waitress brought around the basket he thought nothing of putting in the token he'd been given. A way to keep things orderly in nicer taverns- anyone interested in a particular bard put their marker in and everyone was given their turn in the order drawn.

Kion couldn't help but be pleased though, when his was the first pulled, setting his drink down and moving towards the stage, offering Dorian a warm, crooked little smile.]

You really are quite the musician. [The elf perches on the chaise, giving a knee an inviting pat. There's no rush here, no matter how the other patrons might be hoping he's quick on the draw.]

[Theo idly plucks and strums at his guitar in the late morning sun on the shore, waiting to see if Dorian will show up at their meeting spot today. It's hit or miss whether the merman can meet up with him, and now Theo knows why. Being a prince is probably busy work, but... that makes the time that Dorian shares with him even more special, makes his heart flutter more that Dorian chose him. Maybe he could put that into words, if this melody starting to flow out of him wanted to be built that way.]

[ Dorian actually was already at their meeting spot, though he was a bit farther away hidden due to the surprise he had for Theo. He had actually been considering it for a while, and while he had debated about whether he would actually do this, eventually he had gone to do it before he could change his mind. After that, it was just about practicing until he could manage to stay upright.

Which is why, seeing Theo waiting there for him, he might catch sight of Dorian along the beach, actually walking on a new pair of legs.

[Two injured adventurers walk into a tavern. Their automaton ends up having to carry them the rest of the way to the chairs with their battle injuries, but now that Taryon and Dorian have successfully completed another quest, they can rest and recouperate.

Taryon finds it satisfying to take his glass of wine and raise it up in a private toast.] To us! And to another successful adventure when no one thought we could do it!

[ Even just lifting the wine glass feels like it takes a monumental amount of effort, but Dorian does so anyway, lightly tapping his glass to Tary’s before taking a sip. Though he wonders if he could get something stronger to numb some of the pain of his injuries. ]

I can understand now why people were concerned about it, to be fair.

[Taryon should have had strong suspicions what was going to happen when he spotted a large sum of money being handed over to his father in his study. It was one of those business meetings that he, his sister, and his mother were banned from attending, but Taryon knew how to peek into that room without getting caught - it's how he'd started to recognize some of the strange men frequenting his father, talking about some sort of transaction or other in hushed tones. He has read enough books to see this as proof of his father giving bribes or encouraging someone to go after tenants that haven't paid their rent, but he's never seen such a large gift.

He didn't think much of it, but it was rather strange.

Then one day, out of nowhere, his father said that Taryon was moving in with another wealthy man on the other side of the mountains. It will be good for him, he'll be useful for once, and after being caught with Lawrence (Taryon knows he won't inherit the estate. He has no purpose, and this is a chance to escape this house) it's the first time his future was being considered.

He thought that smile was his father's joy at being rid of his disappointing son.

Long after he left, with only some books and clothes allowed, when he realizes that his family and the servants were lied to on where he was going, when he figured out why Lord Darrington received such a sum that one night. Sir Karnon had directed Taryon to an underground passage in his mansion, which was guarded by a multitude of armed mercenaries, as if this were a prison rather than a wealthy establishment.

The fine silks and artwork sated him for only an hour as he unpacked and relaxed. That’s when he was provided his new uniform: a beautiful shirt that billowed as he walked and trousers that were far too tight around the crotch. This is how he would serve his new master, for now until he had been deemed worthy of freedom.

His protests was met with a shove onto the carpeted floor and a threat from this brute of a warden that Taryon’s newness and his owner’s recent infatuation are the only things stopping him from giving him a good show of Taryon’s duties.

Taryon obediently changed, keeping his regular clothes hidden. He couldn’t be on-call all the time, right? Even servants needed a break, and surely, that warden couldn’t seriously mean that, right?

The recollection of their ride to the manor comes to him: Lord Karnon smiling at Taryon, equally glad and apprehensive of his new home, and commenting on what a good-looking young man he is.]

[ Though Taryon was the latest acquisition, he wasn’t the only new addition to Sir Karnon’s collection.

Dorian had been a victim of bad luck and being in the wrong place at the wrong time; having recently just left his home and trying to make it in the world on his own, things had been off to a poor start when he found that someone had picked his pocket of all the money he had brought with him. With no way to afford travel, lodging, or even food, he had resorted to playing anywhere he could to busk for money. It had been slow going at first, despite people claiming he had talent, until one night when he’d finally been able to play in a tavern, and he had caught the eye of Sir Karnon.

While he was mostly familiar with Sir Karnon’s type, the noble had seemed almost sympathetic to his plight as they talked over drinks after he’d performed. And when the noble offered him some work, Dorian had taken it without much thought, unaware of just what he was accepting until it was too late.

That had been several days ago, when he had been brought to Sir Karnon’s estate and realized that the noble had no intention of letting him leave. Fortunately nothing had happened yet, as the lord had shortly left for a business meeting soon after, but given the uniform he was forced to wear and the guards’ leering comments, Dorian could only wait in dread for when the noble returned. ]
