★ Folkmore Roles & Attributes ★

Skills: As a bard, Dorian is proficient with music, particularly singing, playing the lute, and playing the flute. And for the most part he is very good at performing in front of a crowd (as long as he can work past his stage-fright).

Dorian is also decent in combat, being able to fight with a sword and handaxe; either in using one or the other, or even wielding both for two-handed combat.

Canon Abilities: Listed here
Role: Legend
Role Qualities/Attributes: There will always seem to be a cloud or fog around Dorian’s feet that will also let him float or fly, and while he’s walking it will be difficult to tell if his feet are actually touching the ground or if he’s actually floating slightly on the cloud as it drifts for him. When he’s emotional, his emotions will be reflected through the cloud or with wind; such as if he’s angry the cloud will grow darker and rumble with thunder, or if he’s happy he will be accompanied with a small breeze.
Role Reasoning: For the most part, Dorian is generally a good person. He aligns with Legend as far as being protective, and wanting to aid and heal others, particularly the people that he cares for. However, Dorian is far from selfless, and has done some morally questionable things even in the name of protecting his friends. And while he genuinely does want to do what’s best for the group, he does sometimes have a tendency to insist his way is the correct way and doesn’t always listen to others. Yet he also tends to avoid positions of leadership, preferring to follow someone else’s direction than to take the lead himself. Being put in a role of ultimate goodness and leadership might actually be challenging for him, and it would be interesting to see how he navigates and develops through it.

OPTION 2 QUESTIONS (PICK 4-5) 100-300 WORD LIMIT EACH:

  • What is the most important and defining relationship(s) in your character's life and why?
  • One of Dorian’s most important relationships is with his older brother, Cyrus. Growing up, the Wyvernwind brothers were raised to one day take over their family’s position as head of the Silken Squall; with Cyrus as the first son and heir, and Dorian as the second to take over if anything happened to him. Despite being brothers, there had been a bit of a divide between them, and Dorian had felt stuck in Cyrus’ shadow. Dorian grew desperate to prove himself, which eventually pushed him to leave the Silken Squall and venture on his own. But despite some lingering bitterness and resentment during their first reunion, Dorian realized just how much he truly cared for Cyrus, and everything he learned on his travels helped him as he grew protective over Cyrus; whereas previously he had feared anything happening to Cyrus because of what that would mean for him, eventually his greatest fear became simply losing his older brother.

The friendship groups he gained during his travels are also very important, both with the Crown Keepers and with Bells Hells. The Crown Keepers were the first friends he had made, and with them he learned a lot of what friendship is like and meant to be. There was a lot of trial and error with learning how to behave with other people, and many mistakes had been made with them, but through his friendship with them Dorian was able to grow, and what he learned with them helped with his friendships with the members of Bells Hells. Being with Bells Hells helped him learn how to trust more, and how to be part of something bigger than himself. While he was only involved in the beginning of what would be a larger secret plot, the steps he took with them helped in his own beginning hero’s journey.

  • What is a headcanon (or two) you feel strongly about and that you prefer playing your character with? How is this supported in canon and why do you think it benefits the character's story?
  • One headcanon that I have for Dorian is that part of the reason he had left home is because he is trying to prove his worth. Dorian is often described as a bit of a try-hard, and he stated once that he had expectations of himself that he wouldn’t be able to fulfill while remaining at home with his family. When reunited with his brother for the first time after over a year, he is at first hostile to Cyrus, who he often felt overshadowed by the “perfect first son”. The anger Dorian felt towards Cyrus for essentially copying him in taking a journey away from home felt in part because he had always viewed Cyrus as capable of living up to the expectations their parents had for them, and it suggests that Dorian himself had struggled under those same expectations. It speaks to a doubt Dorian has about himself and his abilities, and while he works hard to try and prove his capabilities he still has trouble seeing it at times, to the point that even when his friends speak of him being a good person, he isn’t as able to entirely believe it.

  • What does your character feel like they struggle with still? Where could they improve? This could be physically, mentally, emotionally, or otherwise.
  • Dorian still struggles a lot with being able to trust people. While he’s come a long way, he is still a rather secretive person, and doesn’t open up easily to others. He had a lot of difficulty with trusting people outside of his circle of friends, despite the expertise with other matters that some of those people could provide to help his friends. But even with his friends he has a tendency to keep secrets, and even at times lie to them. At times it’s because he doesn’t want them to worry, but eventually even he realized that he really had no reason to be lying to them as he was. He is working to be more honest with the people he already trusts, and to be able to at least try to be open to others who could potentially help him and his friends.

  • What would your character sacrifice to get what they want or to reach their potential? What have they sacrificed already?
  • Dorian has actually proven that he’s willing to sacrifice a lot for what he wants, and the only line he doesn’t seem to cross is giving up anything that would possibly put his friends in danger. When Lolth the Spider Queen, known as one of the Betrayer Gods, had offered to return some memories of a week that were lost to Dorian and his friends, Dorian had been willing to give her circlet to a potentially dangerous individual in exchange, despite knowing that it could put the world at large in danger. He had been fortunate at the time that she hadn’t forced him to actually fulfill that part of the bargain, but canonically it did result in his alignment changing from Chaotic Good to Chaotic Neutral. Even still, Dorian has said that if he could be absolutely certain that something would be able to protect his friends, that he would do it no matter what.
